Minerallac's new Hangermate line is now available. Hangermate is an all-steel threaded fastening system for suspending steel threaded rod overhead, built for the work crews do every day: hanging electrical conduit and cable tray, supporting light fixtures, carrying ductwork and mechanical equipment, and running pipe and fire protection.

One system for steel, wood and concrete

Hangermate comes in versions for the three base materials crews run into most:

  • Steel — purlins, bar joists and beams. Steel Hangermate has a self-drilling point, so there's no pre-drilling, and a one-piece design that makes a solid connection from the steel to the rod.

  • Wood — wood-frame columns and beams. A Type 17 gimlet point removes material easily, with no pre-drilling required in most framing.

  • Concrete — ceilings, beams and columns. Concrete Hangermate is made from hardened steel with a thread profile built for low-torque installation and full engagement in the hole.

The line covers 1/4" and 3/8" threaded rod, plus a 1/2" size for wood.

Vertical, horizontal and pivot styles

Most installs hang rod straight down, but not all of them. Alongside the vertical hangers, Hangermate offers side-mount (horizontal) versions for running 1/4" and 3/8" rod laterally off joists, columns and other overhead members, pivot styles, and dual-direction hangers that work in either orientation.

Faster overhead installation

Steel and wood Hangermate drive in with a standard drill screw gun and a matching Hangermate socket driver. Concrete Hangermate goes in with a powered impact tool with a clutch, after drilling the hole to the right embedment depth. Minerallac positions the line as a lower in-place cost option compared with beam clamps, lag bolts and drop-in anchors.

Where it fits

  • Lighting — suspending fixtures in a range of ceiling and structural conditions

  • HVAC — supporting ductwork, equipment and accessories

  • Cable management — suspending cable tray, basket and other wiring management systems

  • General support — the many other suspension and mounting jobs on a project
